Inspection of self-contained breathing apparatus and gas detectors in Mallorca
Official Dräger and Scott station in the Balearic Islands
At Oscar Sierra, we are an authorized service station for Dräger and Scott, two world-leading manufacturers of self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) and gas detectors. Thanks to this accreditation, we can carry out official inspections and maintenance using original spare parts and applying each brand’s protocols, ensuring optimal and approved performance.
Types of equipment we review
Our service covers everything from portable equipment to fixed automatic extinguishing systems. We check that all devices are working properly and comply with current regulations for recreational and professional vessels. Our technicians perform:
SCBA (Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus): provides breathable air in hazardous work environments such as sewers, wells, or unventilated spaces. It is also used as fire protection equipment on ships.
EEBD (Emergency Escape Breathing Device): escape equipment that allows air to be inhaled for 10 to 15 minutes in situations involving fire or smoke, facilitating the safe evacuation of the crew.
Gas detectors: portable or fixed devices that monitor the presence of toxic or flammable gases, immediately alerting the user to prevent accidents.
Why is it important to check breathing equipment?
Breathing apparatus is essential personal protective equipment (PPE) for working in confined spaces, areas at risk of toxic gases, or fires. An annual inspection ensures that the equipment will work effectively when you need it most, protecting the user from poisoning and facilitating evacuation in emergencies.
In addition, current regulations stipulate that both SCBA (Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus) and EEBD (Emergency Escape Breathing Device) must undergo annual maintenance at an authorized station.

Frequently asked questions about breathing apparatus inspection
How often should I check my breathing equipment?
Regulations require that ERAs and EEBDs be inspected at least once a year. In high-use environments, more frequent inspections are recommended.
What does an ERA or EEBD review include?
Includes leak testing, checking the air cylinder, valves, and pressure gauge, cleaning, replacing defective parts, and verifying that the system is functioning according to the manufacturer’s specifications.
What happens if a team fails the review?
In the event of a fault, we replace defective parts with original spare parts. If the equipment cannot be certified, we advise the customer on the best solution to maintain safety on board.
Do you check gas detectors in addition to breathing apparatus?
Yes. We also calibrate and maintain portable and fixed gas detectors, ensuring accurate readings and regulatory compliance.
